No one knows for sure from which point in history it is worth starting to talk about comics. It depends on the narrator and the point on the map where he is. Despite the fact that we are here to talk about Ukrainian mal'opys, we need to stop at the start and gallop across Europe to see from a bird's eye view that we are not alone in the multiple origins, births and discoveries of the ninth art form.
Ukrainian Mal'opys: the (un)Told Story is a project that aims to tell the world about Ukrainian comics, and Ukrainians about Ukrainian comics in the world. Work on the publication began in the fall of 2018. During this time, hundreds of scientific articles, monographs, letters, etc. were processed. Thanks to these finds, a lot of information has become relevant, such as the answer to the sacramental question: what can we consider the first Ukrainian mal'opys? Let's find out!
UA Comix is a publishing house of Ukrainian comics called mal'opys. Founded in Lviv in 2017, it brings together a community of artists, creators and authors who generate a new cultural product. The publishing house's team is engaged in the popularization of Ukrainian mal'opys in Ukraine and the world, researches history, mythology and rethinks them in new realities. A separate area of the company's activity is volunteering and charitable activities. The publishing house creates stories about the Russian-Ukrainian war and transfers part of the profit to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In 2025, it initiated the campaign "Mal'opys for the Army", which anyone can join.
