White on white: the invisible women's history of Ukraine

Pre-presentation of the third reprint of Marta Bohachevsky-Chomiak’s fundamental feminist work “White on White: Women in the Public Life of Ukraine, 1884–1939”, which offers Ukrainian readers a new perspective on women’s history. The book, last published in Ukraine in 2018, returns in 2025 to once again raise pressing questions: why women’s experiences have long remained invisible, how we can read the past through women’s voices, and what this means for the future.

The participants of the discussion — scholars and researchers of women’s history, editors and feminists — will reflect on the role of White on White, the transformation of public attitudes toward women’s history, as well as contemporary challenges and the urgent need for a feminist rethinking of the past.
