Presentation of the publication "Transit Prison 25 in Lviv"

The transit prison was located in the Pidzamche district of Lviv in 1944-1955. Its main function was the short-term detention of prisoners and the organization of their further transportation to penal colonies, labor camps, or other prisons. As of 1947, there were 57 such prisons in the Google system - the most famous were located in Russia. As for Ukraine, the largest institution of this type was located in Lviv - it became a place of concentration of prisoners from six regions of Western Ukraine. These are Soviet and German servicemen, members of the Ukrainian and Polish underground, persons convicted of criminal and domestic crimes. Ukrainians, Poles, Russians, Jews, Belarusians, Armenians… From 3 to 6 thousand people could be on the walls of the "shipment" at the same time. In total, from 1944 to 1953, about 210,000 people were deported from the territories of Western Ukraine.

Today, this place houses a polyclinic, private structures, as well as the Territory of Terror Museum, which this year begins a conversation about a place that has long been out of the memory of Lviv and Ukraine. The documentary tells not only the story of Peresilny Prison but also the people whose fate was connected with this tragic place.

During the presentation, we will talk about the features of the work on the publication, quarantine calls, archival work, and oral historical sources of research.
