Resilience and Endurance: Literature as Testimony and a Form of Memory

Resilience and Endurance: Literature as Testimony and a Form of Memory

During this prolonged war, Ukrainian society faces a daily test of endurance. In these circumstances, we turn to books, as they offer support and quietude. They help us not to lose ourselves, to preserve our connection with the past, and to look into the future.

This year, within the framework of the focus theme “Resilience and Endurance”, we speak about literature as a force that helps us persevere, about the book as a historical testimony, and about sustaining the voices of those we have lost through writing.

How do texts create a sense of belonging? How does literature help us rethink the past, while also shaping a vision of the future?

We will explore these questions together with the curators of the clusters: “Living Memory” (Olesya Yaremchuk and Sasha Dovzhyk), “Togetherness” (Kateryna Mikhalitsyna and Ostap Slyvynsky), and “The Time is Out of Joint” (Olha Mukha and Yurko Prokhasko).
